CLASS DESCRIPTION
This class is for students who are looking to break through barriers in creating art. The student only needs to bring his/her own interest and curiosity, passion and existing level of experience and skill. All beginning students have unseen, and generally unidentified, barriers of fear or discomfort around their art. Peter’s goal is to help identify and break through these fear barriers of each student. In this class, the less self-conscious an artist is, the more freely he or she can express his/her vision of the world. This will be a fun, experimental and entertaining class because students will proceed creating their art on their own way while beginning to integrate instructions on technique and perspective from the instructor.
In addition, many students experimenting with art have learned bad habits, which are then reinforced by repeating them over and over. Peter wants to identify and break some of the bad habits he observes, while at the same time eliciting from each student a clearer sense of defining their own personal style in their art.
For the first several class sessions, students will work on their pieces under Peter’s skilled guidance, and for the last several sessions, Peter will more actively introduce technical aspects to their methods, while helping guide the students to develop their own voice.
Any media is welcome – watercolor / oil / acrylic / mono print / pastel / collage…
A Message from the Teacher
I am offering a class for non-professional artists who want to escalate their power to create and communicate through their art. In this class we will pursue three vital questions:
A first glance at any work of art tells us a lot about its time period by what we call “style”. But the keystone artistic achievements, from the Lascaux caves to present day art, testify to the great artist’s knowledge of human perception. In this sense, art is a science, derived from the nature of the human eye and the human brain. We will study that science and integrate it into each student’s personal style.
The elements of the artistic visual language are simple – line, form, space, color, texture, shape. Whatever your style, you speak to the viewer using these artistic language elements. You will learn how to select and modify those elements to achieve your purpose.
This class will enhance your ability to answer the three key questions; it will give you the specific skills to make your work coherent, compelling and meaningful to the observer.

About the Instructor
Peter Eller is a well-known San Francisco artist who works in oil painting, mixed media and sculptures in traditional and nontraditional materials. His works hang in many private collections as well as a number of corporate, commercial and industrial properties and museums. He participates in-group art exhibits throughout California, nationwide and abroad.
Before receiving his master’s degree from the San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI), he had already sold many paintings, sculptures and mosaic works here and in Europe. He began his art training in Bulgaria, acquiring a comprehensive knowledge of materials and techniques in the tradition of Old-World craftsmen–masters. Later he escaped into Western Europe and America, seeking personal and artistic freedom. He serves as a Professor of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture at the University of San Francisco, and also teaches private students.
ANNOUNCEMENT – NEW CLASSES FOR ART ORIENTED STUDENTS
ART AND PHENOMENA CLASIC BASESS OF DRAWING AT STAGE ONE.
A Message from the Teacher –
I am offering classes for professional artists who want to escalate their power to create and communicate. In these classes we will pursue three vital questions:
Why? What motivates you to create this particular piece of an art? What is the idea that the final work must convey?
The Concept, the Idea the Content.
How? How can you employ your knowledge and skill in presenting that concept?
The Form.
What? – is the real subject? What must the final work include – or exclude?
The Subject.
What is the phenomenal way to organize these questions to create?
My answer is: do not illustrate the event, experience the phenomena.
A first glance at any work of art tells us a lot about its time period, by what we call “style”. But the keystone artistic achievements, from the Lascaux caves to the present, testify to the great artist’s knowledge of human perception.
