Technically the work is an oil painting on canvas with use of smooth and heavy brush work, palette knife textures and under layers of gold leaf. Conceptually, there are superimposed layers of fragments of old town architecture on the Mediterranean coast and especially from Venice, Italy, creating an imaginary landscape. The viewer is looking from above, which allows deeper observation of it. Everything is veiled by the afternoon light, which is moving  with the sunset to the evening, above and around the cityscape and the silhouette of the church. That creates long darker shadows and reflections from above on the sea surface.  Strong contrast of earthy tones—ochre, gold ochre, burgundy, umber and sienna,  are grounding  the work absorbing the  light before the night.
