Technically the work is an oil painting on canvas with use of smooth and heavy brushwork, palette knife textures and under layers of gold leaf. Conceptually, there are superimposed layers of fragments of old and new towns, and their harbors are not only on the Mediterranean coast, Venice, Roma, but Paris, New York, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, etc. The viewer is looking from above, which allows deeper observation of this imagined landscape. Everything is veiled now from the light of the day to the very hot sunset rising up into the strong contrast column of earthy tones—ochre, gold ochre, burgundy, umber, and sienna. This column carries strong tones in order to ground the painting and emphasize the light and shadows of the architectural part of the harbor, changing the sea line deeper and deeper. There are neutral areas to allow the eyes to rest and move to the next horizon line, coming back to flow in between gondolas and canals, moving the space in the painting back and forth.
